The Saxon Shore
The Romans gave us the name the Saxon Shore (above title). Perhaps they should have called it the Saxon Shores as the defense system which it was had forts on both sides of the English Channel. In England I believe that there were 9 forts in England. Most of these were on the sea shore or rivers.At this time England was considered part of the the Gallic Provinces. Although England and Gaul (France) had subdivisions of a diocese.
