The Romans were very consitant in their method of building military buildings. Primarily the Romans built forts in several different shapes but the basics always remained the same in that there were usually four gates, towers, curtain walls ditch or moats and then the general buildings such as the headquarters, storage buildings and barracks. The Romans often built over earlier Celtic fortifications. Here is the estimated out line of the fort at Rutupiae.
